REGINA, Saskatchewan – April 18, 2024 – Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (AMC) is thrilled to announce a significant investment of $300,000 from the Government of Saskatchewan towards the creation of a cutting-edge Mobile Skills Lab aimed at promoting careers in agriculture and agricultural equipment manufacturing.
The innovative Mobile Skills Lab, made possible by this funding, will traverse Saskatchewan visiting schools, career fairs, trade shows, and communities to showcase the exciting career opportunities available in the industry. Utilizing virtual reality technology and other educational tools across multiple experiential learning stations, individuals will have the unique opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the experience of a career in this dynamic industry.
“Agricultural manufacturers play an important role in driving our provincial economy and employ people in communities across Saskatchewan,” said Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Immigration and Career Training. “Saskatchewan is a leader in innovative agriculture and this investment ensures that agricultural equipment manufacturers will continue to attract the talent needed to support their growth.”
“Our provincial agriculture manufacturers are some of the most competitive and innovative businesses you will find anywhere,” said David Marit, Minister of Agriculture. “When dollars are spent in markets around the world on dry land agriculture equipment, the Saskatchewan brand is in demand. This investment ensures people can connect with rewarding careers in the ag sector and keep our international reputation growing.”
The Mobile Skills Lab will embark on its journey across Saskatchewan this summer, engaging students, parents, educators, and the public at large. Beyond showcasing career pathways, the lab will also promote ongoing professional development opportunities for those already employed in the sector. Regardless of one's background or knowledge of agriculture or manufacturing, everyone will have the opportunity to learn, grow, and, most importantly, be inspired to pursue a rewarding career.
This strategic partnership between the Government of Saskatchewan and AMC aligns with efforts to address labour shortages and foster career development in high-growth industries. The initiative supports the objectives outlined in Saskatchewan's Labour Market Strategy. This ensures that the workforce is equipped to meet the demands of a thriving economy while empowering Saskatchewan residents to capitalize on emerging opportunities within an industry offering long-term career prosperity.
Donna Boyd, President of AMC, spoke to the association's excitement in spearheading the project and inspiring the next generation of talent for the industry. “Attracting the next generation of Canada’s workforce requires key messaging and engaging projects that speak to the minds and hearts of that talent. From long-term career stability to protecting the environment and ensuring global food security, our industry has proven itself to be an ideal match for any Canadian looking for a stable and exciting career. AMC is proud to address the needs of our members and the industry at large with the Careers in Ag initiative. In working with the Saskatchewan Government to build and launch the Mobile Skills Lab, we are making great strides in matching our industry’s growth with the talented workforce it needs to sustain it.”
The Careers in Ag Mobile Skills Lab will officially launch at Ag in Motion in Langham, July 16-18, 2024.
