Dr. Steven R. Webb to present: Canada's Sustainable Agriculture Success Story at GRIT: AMC’s Annual Convention and Trade Show.
Canada is a leader in the sustainable production of safe and nutritious food and is one of the largest food exporters in the world. Our agriculture sector employs an intensive production system that uses modern technologies and practices in a manner that is economically, environmentally and socially sustainable.
The Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) at the University of Saskatchewan commissioned studies in 2022 to examine the carbon footprint of agricultural production in Saskatchewan, Western Canada and Eastern Canada, and compared those results to some of our closest competitors across the world. The results demonstrate that Canadian producers, particularly in Saskatchewan and Western Canada, are producing some of the least carbon-intensive crops in the world. This is driven by the widespread adoption of various innovations and sustainable farming practices. In this session, Steve highlights these remarkable results which give Canada a competitive advantage in a sector that has the potential to positively transform the country’s productivity, economy and global competitiveness.
