AMC addresses protectionist issues

CNH plans expansion in Russia

On October 7, 2009 CNH agreed to a pact with KAMAZ, Russia’s largest producer of trucks and diesel engines. They will form an industrial and commercial alliance to produce CNH branded combines, tractors, implements and specific construction equipment in Russia. These operations will be based in Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan. In addition to this manufacturing agreement, CNH and KAMAZ will integrate their networks to distribute in the Russian Federation both local and imported agricultural and construction equipment. Present at the formal signing of this agreement were the CEO of the Fiat Group, parent company of CNH global (Sergio Marchionne) and Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
 
AGCO and Concern Tractor Plants (CTP) signed a joint venture
AGCO Chairman, President and CEO, Martin Richenhagen, announced the company would invest $9 million in the joint venture over the next three years, with AGCO and CTP both having a 50% ownership in this venture. They will assemble and distribute the full range of AGCO and SISU Power Engines throughout Russia and the Confederation of Independent States (CIS). They will become the key engine supplier for industrial and agricultural machinery between 50 and 350 horsepower while also selling engines to third party customers in the CIS countries.
 
John Deere invests in Russia
In August, John Deere’s Board of Directors approved an investment to establish a manufacturing and parts centre in Russia. This project will be located near Moscow, in close proximity to the Domodedovo International Airport. The site will have the capability to manufacture many John Deere products, including tractors and harvesting equipment as well as construction and forestry products.
“Our strategic investments reflect Deere’s confidence in potential in the Russian market.  Russia will be a major contributor to meeting the world’s future needs for food and forestry products,” said Samuel R. Allan, President and Chief Executive Officer.
