The agricultural manufacturing industry in Canada progressively and rapidly developed as an entity separate from that of commercial or industrial manufacturing. The need for machinery that could meet the challenges of the Canadian climate and keep pace with the rapid settlement of large tracts of land was a key factor to this evolution.
By 1970, the industry had grown to a point where manufacturers needed a voice to speak to government, and an industry association known as the Prairie Implement Manufacturers Association (PIMA) was born. It was the start of a new era for farm equipment manufacturers. The new forum would allow a sharing of ideas and concerns and provide a united voice on behalf of the industry. PIMA soon became an acronym synonymous with innovation, industry and initiative in the agricultural equipment manufacturing sector.
In 2000, in recognition of its expanded national presence, PIMA became known as PIMA – Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada. In 2006, a motion to change the name to the Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (AMC) was met with overwhelming support at the association’s annual general meeting. From modest beginnings on the Prairies, the association has evolved into a nationally-recognized organization representing more than 400 manufacturers and associated suppliers across Canada and members in the US.
AMC has as its mission statement:
“To foster and promote the growth and development of the agricultural equipment manufacturing industry in Canada.”
In support of that mandate, AMC serves as a lobbying voice for the industry and offers a forum for the sharing of common interests, expertise and innovative thinking.
